Library Media Center

Mission Statement

The mission of the library media program is to ensure that the students and staff are effective users of ideas and information.

This mission is accomplished by:

  • providing intellectual and physical access to materials in all formats;

  • providing instruction to foster competence and stimulate interest in reading, viewing, and using information and ideas;

  • working with other educators to design learning strategies to meet the needs of individual students.

The library shall also foster learning in all students in a positive, caring, and motivational atmosphere and to provide and encourage a successful learning experience.

Freedom Statement

It is the belief of the Lockney Library Media Center that reading is a joy, a privilege, and the right of every student. As students select the library books they will read, they should understand that not every book is the best choice for every student. If a book is unappealing or offensive to a student in any way, they should return it and select another.

Library Manners and Rules

for Junior High Patrons

  • Please remember to always respect the Media Center. No running, horse play or loud talking.

  • Jr. High students may check out any nonfiction books and ONLY the blue label, fiction books (unless they have prior written permission from their classroom teacher and/or parent AND Mrs. Cummings).

  • If a book is returned without the color dot, you will be fined.

  • If a book is part of a series, the series needs to be read in order so that it will make sense.

  • When looking for a book, use the shelf markers provided to hold the space where the book belongs. If you decide against the book, put it back exactly where it came from. Do NOT take the shelf markers from the library. They are not bookmarks.

  • When you have chosen a book, bring it to the circulation desk. When several are at the desk, please wait politely, in line for your turn. You will give your first and last name and your book to the library staff. You will be given a receipt with your name, the title of your book and the DUE DATE highlighted. Please check it for accuracy before you leave the library!

  • Books are checked out for a period of two weeks. At that time, you will need to turn it in or recheck it. Books that are finished before the time is up may be turned in early.

  • Books that are not returned in time are fined ten cents per day. You may not check out another book until all fines are paid.

  • To turn in your book, put it in the hole marked “Book Drop”. Do NOT leave your book on top of the circulation desk.
